Fellowship in Clinical Diabetology

Duration of the Programme: 2 Year (4 semesters)

This is an intensive full-time programme offered to medical graduates interested in specializing in diabetology.
Candidates opting this programme are being trained to manage both in-patient and out-patient services. There will be regular contact classes by both external and internal faculties. Faculty members include professors from basic medical sciences, diabetologists and other specialisations including Cardiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Podiatry, Psychiatry, Dental Sciences, Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, Pulmonology, Dietetics, and Patient Education. They will be posted with senior consultants for training in OP/ IP departments. They will participate in the grand rounds, perform duties by duty roster; attend CME meetings and scientific conferences.
Course Objectives
General: To develop a basic understanding of the principles and methods of diabetes management, education and research in diabetes.
Specific Objectives
Clinical skills: Assess and provide management of diabetes with regards to pathogenesis, diet,exercise, medications and device utilization for patients.
Teaching skills: To be able to teach other paramedical health personnel on the basics of clinical practice in diabetes. Camps and Screening programme: To develop the capacity to conduct outreach programmes and camps.
Hospital infrastructure development: Set up a diabetes clinic and develop basic ward and laboratory infrastructure in a peripheral hospital
Laboratory skills: To handle basic laboratory tests and assess quality control.

Eligibility: M.B.B.S (From an MCI recognized institute)
Mode of Selection: On the basis of a personal interview conducted by the Academic Dean and Director Research.
Admission Procedure: Candidates who have passed the qualifying examination other than the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, should obtain an “Eligibility Certificate” from the University by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form and required documents before seeking admission. The candidate shall thereafter register for the course in the university. Fee structure: Tuition fee per semester – Rs. 3,00,000 University fee - Rs. 24,800 (Spot Verification, Registration, Examination Fee, Administrative Fee)

On successful completion of the course and examination, degree will be awarded by The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR University, Chennai.

Post Doctoral Fellowship in Diabetology
